Character Generation Software update


Here's a little update on Codex activity in recent days. I've been working on updating our Lifepath character generation software and database, making a new version using the Player's Guide rules. The original system (which is what I've used so far to make characters for all our adventures and playtesting) was very efficient - you could make a character in about 5 minutes- but also fiendishly complex internally, and it took me about six years to write. So far I've spent about 3 months on the new version, using the much simpler and 'cleaner' rules from the Player's Guide. This was not easy, but it's working as of today. I still have to write the printing part of this to generate the character sheet (this will ultimately make a character based on our 'smart PDF' character sheet as well as a full size and half-sized page similar to ones you may have seen before from the older system). But I will have some new and better characters for playtesting soon and we can use these for 'The Nameless Pub' battles and of course, future adventure books. The real goal of all this work is to put this character generation system on our website so everyone can use it, but this will definitely take a while to implement. The work I've been doing has created the new database which will be on the site soon, but all the code will have to be rewritten for the web by my partner Sam. He's very smart so he will do it. This will be available on the website along with a host of new utilities like our adventure seed generator, marketplace, name generator and so on, starting before the end of October. The character generation elements will come online piecemeal at first, for example screens where you can look at all the classes and pick specializations etc. We hope to have it all done maybe by the end of November.
